"‘Presents, Present or Presence’ is a painting about whether the idea of the word ‘present’ is misunderstood. Has it been said wrong all these years? Has it been spelt wrong? Or has it been taken wrong? Shouldn’t Christmas be not just about the gifts, but about the people in the present but also in their presence? The reflection of the bauble shows that a Christmas tree has the best seat in the house. A tree and all its decorations get to see the tears of joy, the welcoming of long-awaited relatives and the squeals of delight as you see your friends at the bottom of the drive. For me, as I mature, I’ve come to realise that Christmas is a way for a busy schedule to be put aside, and a time of year to see those whom we miss and cherish. Gifts are just a bonus, not a festive necessity."
